Tar Heels Hush Wolverines In Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 1-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team dominated the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines with a 5-2 win at the Varsity Tennis Center Sunday. The Tar Heels move to 11-0 on the season, their first 11-0 start since before 1998.
Carolina grabbed the doubles point early, just 40 minutes into the match.
Ashley Dai and Cassandra Vazquez got the 6-1 win on Court 3 in the first doubles match the duo has played together this season.
No. 20 Caroline Price and Jamie Loeb clinched the doubles point for the Tar Heels with their 6-2 upset over No. 11 Emina Bektas/Alex Najarian. The duo moves to 9-1 on the season by handing Bektas/Najarian their second loss in a row.
In singles, No. 18 Carter was quick to defeat Emina Bektas with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat. She moves to 17-5 on the season, and the Tar Heels moved to 2-0 in the match.
Mira Ruder-Hook upset No. 66 Dai 6-1, 6-3 to cut the Wolverines' deficit in half to 2-1.
No. 21 Price snagged the third point for the Tar Heels and defeated No. 97 Sarah Lee 6-3, 6-3 to make it a 3-1 match, pushing Carolina to within one of the win.
Rookie No. 95 Vazquez picked up her eighth win of the season and first since Jan. 18th at the Freeman Memorial with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win. Vazquez also secured the win for the Heels by making it a 4-1 match.
No. 53 Whitney Kay moved to 12-3 on the season, the second-best winning percentage on the team behind Price, with her 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 7-5 comeback over Alex Najarian.
No. 5 Jamie Loeb was upset by No. 25 Ronit Yurovsky 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the final match of the afternoon to make it a 5-2 match at the finish.
The Tar Heels will return to Chapel Hill on Friday, Feb. 27 at 3pm to face Georgia Tech.
