Five North Carolina rowers have been honored as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athletes, a list announced by the CRCA on Wednesday. Seniors Katie Burger, Allie Davis, Julie Peterson and Maria Santoyo were recognized, along with junior Sarah Priest.
The honor is the second in a row for Burger, Santoyo and Priest. Burger is from Cary, N.C., Priest from Chapel Hill, N.C., and Santoyo from Raleigh. Davis is from Dublin, Ohio, and Peterson is from Seaside Park, N.J.
To earn CRCA Scholar-Athlete honors, a rower or coxswain must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5; be in her sophomore, junior or senior year; and be in the lineup for at least 75 percent of the races in one of the school's top boats. A total of 49 Atlantic Coast Conference rowers and coxswains were named to the team.
