Carolina Falls To Charlotte, 4-3

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - North Carolina dropped a 4-3 game to Charlotte Wednesday night. With the scored tied at 2-2 heading to the seventh, Carolina posted the go-ahead run in the top, but Charlotte scored two runs in the final frame to take the comeback win.
Jenna Kelly belted her ninth homer of the year for the Tar Heels, who fall to 18-16 for the year after dropping their fourth-straight game.
After a quiet first inning, Jenna Kelly put the Tar Heels on the board in the second with a solo shot out left. Kati Causey then drew a walk, and after Stephanie Krider came in to run, she stole second and then scored as Darby Rosen reached base on an error.
In the fourth, a pair of singles put two 49ers on base. Chelsea Lisikatos reached base on an error and knocked in Charlotte's first run. After two more base hits in the fifth, Samantha Slade singled up the middle, driving in a run to even the game at 2-2.
In the Tar Heels' last at-bat, Elena Covert came in to pinch hit and singled up the middle, which Mateen followed with a bunt single. Amy Nece drew a walk, loading the bases for Kristen Brown who also walked, forcing a run across the plate to put Carolina up 3-2.
After Lexi Betancourt hit an infield single, she advanced to second on a wild pitch before Slade drew a walk. Jessica Plemmons then singled to center and advanced to second on the throw as Betancourt ran home for the tying run. With two runners still on, Jackie Kleinsmith singled to short, driving in Slade for the winning run.
Lauren Batten pitched 1.2 innings in the loss, giving up three hits and two walks with one strikeout. Kendra Lynch spent the first five innings in the circle, surrendering five hits while striking out two batters.
Up Next: The Tar Heels head to Charlottesville this weekend for a series at Virginia. UNC will face the Cavaliers on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. and on Sunday at noon.
