March 12, 2014 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Courtney Klingler homered twice and posted three RBIs on three hits to lead Campbell to a 9-3 win over North Carolina Tuesday.
Kristen Brown had two RBIs on two hits, including her seventh homer of the year, for the Tar Heels. Carolina, now 11-10 (5-1 ACC) for the year, posted a solid eight hits, but the Tar Heels' three errors didn't help their effort.
The Fighting Camels posted three runs early in the first. Kerstine Womack reached on a fielder's choice, working her way around the bases and scoring on a single by Courtney Klingler. Milly Martinet then homered to center to bring in two more runs.
Kristen Brown led off the first with a solo home run, and after Jordan Scarboro doubled to right center in the second, Brown hit an RBI single to make it a one-run game.
The Camels broke open their lead with another three runs in the third, taking advantage of a second Tar Heel error and a two-run homer from Klingler.
In the fourth, Scarboro singled, moving to third on a ground out and wild pitch, and then an RBI single by Jenna Kelly sent Scarboro home for the Tar Heels' last run.
Milly Martiney hit a two-run long ball to left center in the fifth, and then Campbell tacked on one final score on Klingler's RBI single in the sixth.
Kendra Lynch (1-3) pitched two innings for the loss, giving up five runs and three hits. Lauren Batten pitched 2.1 innings, surrendering three runs and three hits, and Ashley Bone pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up just one run and five hits.
