Carolina Volleyball Hosts Miami on Halloween

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The No. 9 North Carolina volleyball team will host Miami (14-6, 7-2 ACC) on Friday for a 6 p.m. Halloween match-up in Carmichael Arena.
In its most recent match, UNC pulled off a dramatic comeback to defeat Georgia Tech 3-2 on Sunday. The Tar Heels trailed 2-0 in the match before winning the last three sets to take the victory. Chaniel Nelson poured in a season-high 19 kills for the Tar Heels, while Jordyn Schnabl added her second double-double of the season with 27 assists and 11 digs.
PREVIEWING THE MIAMI HURRICANES
Miami is off to an excellent start in ACC play with a 7-2 conference record. The Hurricanes' only losses in the ACC have been a 3-2 decision versus No. 3 FSU and a 3-0 loss at No. 21 Duke. Miami is currently on a five-match win streak and has swept three of their last four matches in ACC play, including a 3-0 victory over Wake Forest. The Hurricanes hit .383 against the Demon Deacons behind 35 assists from freshman setter Haley Templeton.
The Hurricanes are led by All-ACC performer Savannah Leaf, who is leading the ACC with 4.70 kills/set. Leaf has been named ACC Player of the Week twice so far this season. Freshman Haley Templeton is No. 2 in the ACC with 10.85 assists/set and is guiding the Hurricanes to a .260 hitting percentage, good for No. 3 in the ACC. Middle blocker Emani Sims in No. 4 in the ACC with a .383 hitting percentage and adds 2.13 kills/set for Miami.
Head Coach Jose “Keno” Gandara is in his second year at Miami and has led the Hurricanes to a 14-6 overall record in 2014. Gandara transitioned to Miami from the University of Washington, where he had been an assistant for eight years. Gandara led Miami to nonconference victories over Ball State and Missouri this year.
The Tar Heels are 11-14 all-time against Miami after dropping a 3-2 decision to the Hurricanes last season in Coral Gables. UNC will host Miami on Friday at 6 p.m. for a Halloween match in Carmichael Arena. Live stats and live video will be available through GoHeels.com.
