Lauren Adkins led the Tar Heels with a career-high 16 kills and two blocks, and Leigh Andrew posted 12 kills with 22 digs to help Carolina improve to 19-1 and 8-1 in ACC play.
"It was exciting to play and get a win at the Smith Center tonight," head coach Joe Sagula said. "It was an interesting match with a lot of ups and downs throughout the match. Maryland played very well, especially with their blocking. We had a lot of people contribute for us tonight, and I'm excited to get a win and stay in the top of the ACC right now."
Maryland took set one 25-21, as Ashleigh Crutcher tallied nine kills and three blocks for the Terps, who posted seven team blocks with a .238 attack.
