
Roberts, Lipsey Lead Tar Heels At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Ariel Roberts and freshman Javonte Lipsey led the Tar Heels with top-eight individual finishes at the Penn Relays Friday and Saturday. The Penn Relays, one of the largest track and field meets in the world since it began in 1895, features top competition from high school, college and elite-level track and field athletes from around the world.
Roberts finished second in the collegiate women's high jump after clearing 5-8 3/4, and Lipsey took eighth in the collegiate men's 400-meter hurdles in 52.16. Lipsey also teamed with freshmen Sean Sutton and O'Neal Wanliss, and junior Clayton Parros to take sixth in the collegiate men's Championship of America 4x400 in a season-best time of 3:09.02.
The men's sprint medley team of Sutton, Parros, Wanliss and sophomore Roy Smith finished fifth in 3:24.54, while the women's squad of seniors Elizabeth Mott, Jacinda Evans, Zoey Russell and sophomore Lianne Farber took 10th in 3:56.37.
Senior Emory Parsons took 12th in the collegiate men's discus throw (163-10). In addition to Lipsey's eighth-place in the men's 400-meter hurdles, junior Reynaldo Radlin finished 28th in 54.22, and Smith finished 30th in 54.28.
The North Carolina track and field team will compete next at the NC State Invitational in two weeks on May 12 in Raleigh. Stay tuned to Tar Heel Blue to hear how UNC is prepping for the NCAA East Regional Championships at the end of the month.
