
Singles Play Continues At Duke Invite

CARY, N.C. - Weather delays due to rain and power outages shortened the day at the 2011 Duke Fab Four Invite in Cary, N.C. Four UNC players were involved in singles play and all doubles was washed out until Sunday as matches were moved to campus sites for indoor facilities.
In the Men's Singles Blue bracket, UNC senior Joey Burkhardt fell in the quarterfinal round to Luke Marchese of Duke 1-6, 6-0, 6-2. In the consolation fifth place bracket, Burkhardt then won his match against Grant Roberts of Kentucky 6-3, 6-3. He will play Nick Jones of South Carolina for fifth place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
In the Men's Singles Black bracket, Tar Heel senior Cameron Ahari won both of his matches Saturday to advance to Sunday's consolation final against Ben Hoogland of William & Mary at 10:30 a.m. Ahari beat Maks Godl of Kentucky 7-5, 6-4 in the consolation quarterfinal and Ben Guthrie of William & Mary 6-7, 8-6, 3-0 (withdrew) in the consolation semifinal. In the same bracket, UNC freshman Oystein Steiro won over Hunter Koontz of Virginia Tech 6-0, 6-2 in the consolation quarterfinal but then fell to Ben Hoogland of William & Mary 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the semifinal. Steiro will play Guthrie for the consolation third place prize on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
In the Men's Singles White bracket, Carolina junior William Parker beat Jamie Whitford of William & Mary 2-6, 7-5, 4-0 (retired) in the quarterfinal before falling to Duke's Fred Saba 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. At 10:30 Sunday, Parker will meet Austin Powell of NC State for third place in the bracket.
