No. 3 Tar Heels Cruise Past Minnesota, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 3 North Carolina won its fifth dual match in a row, blanking visiting Minnesota, 7-0, Thursday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Carolina dropped just one set in six singles wins, with sophomores Zoe De Bruycker and Gina Suarez-Malaguti posting flawless 6-0, 6-0 singles victories on courts one and four, respectively. Jelena Durisic, Shinann Featherston, Tessa Lyons and Laura Slater were also winners for the Tar Heels, who return to Atlantic Coast Conference play Sunday at Wake Forest.
Carolina (12-3) shook up the doubles lineup but still took the point for the fifth straight match to gain the early lead. Slater and Jennifer Stone teamed up at No. 3 doubles to top Peta Forsyth and Elianna Kantar, 8-3, before Featherston and Suarez-Malaguti beat Doron Muravnik and Magdalena Wiecha, 9-7, on court one. Durisic and Haley Hemm completed the doubles sweep at No. 2 with an 8-5 victory over Alexa Palen and Mariana Spilca.
The Tar Heels kept their foot on the gas in singles, buoyed by a pair of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps from De Bruycker and Suarez-Malaguti. The sophmores made it 3-0 before Featherston's, 6-2, 6-0 win over Muravnik on court three sealed the dual.
A pair of freshman were off next for UNC, as Lyons and Slater each picked up their fourth dual match singles win of the season.
With the hosts leading 6-0, the only drama was left at No. 2, as Durisic and Palen split sets to force a third-set tiebreak. Durisic ensured Carolina would get the sweep as the Torrance, Calif., senior outlasted Palen, 6-2, 3-6, (10-8).
UNC travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sunday as the Tar Heels face No. 47 Wake Forest at noon.
