No. 6 Carolina Takes Care Of No. 35 DePaul, 6-1

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 6 North Carolina advanced to Sunday's championship match with a 6-1 win over No. 35 DePaul Saturday in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Zoe De Bruycker, Jelena Durisic, Gina Suarez-Malaguti, Lauren McHale and Haley Hemm were singles winners for the Tar Heels, who will face No. 15 Georgia Sunday at 2 p.m. for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Carolina (3-0) wasted little time in sweeping the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. De Bruycker and Jennifer Stone were first to finish on court three, defeating Christiana Raymond and Cali Gustafson, 8-2. McHale and Hemm then clinched the point at the top spot, dispatching Gia McKnight and Selma Salkovic, 8-4. Durisic and Tessa Lyons completed the sweep with an 8-5 victory over Katarina Milinkovic and Kelsey Lawson at No. 2.
A late addition to the UNC singles lineup, Hemm made quick work of Gustafson at No. 6, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win to give the Tar Heels a 2-0 advantage.
Suarez-Malaguti was next off after dropping just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 beating of McKnight at No. 3.
The Blue Demons then got their only point of the match on court five, as Lawson defeated Lyons, 6-1, 6-1.
But Carolina quickly clinched the team victory courtesy of De Bruycker on court one. The sophomore standout scored her third straight-set win of the season over Milinkovic, 6-1, 6-2.
Durisic and McHale would close out two-setters of their own to give UNC the final margin of 6-1.
Carolina will face No. 15 Georgia Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 18-21 in Charlottesville, Va. The Tar Heels advanced the finals of National Team Indoors in 2010, losing to Northwestern in the championship match.
