Coach & Player Quotes
Crystal Dunn:
"We started off slow and we were a little disappointed because we didn't play the best. But we found a way to win. We played with a lot of heart and we all played for each other, which in the end is the most important thing."
Where does leadership come from?
"I would say it comes from every single position. In the back lines we need a lot of leadership. I talk a lot and everyone else on the back lines talk a lot. But we need it a lot in the midfield, too ... I would say from all over the field, which is what we need; not one person is in charge of anything."
How does it feel to play in high-pressure games as a freshman?
"I was nervous and I had a lot to play for but in the end, the other girls were right there with me. I made a couple mistakes, but who doesn't? So it was nerve-racking but I pulled it together and I have the [other] girls to thank for that."
Anna Sieloff
"I think everyone contributes a lot whether it is through their work ethic or communication. There are a lot of different ways you can exhibit leadership. For me, my role is more communication and organizing, along with the back line ... and the work ethic up top; our forwards are always attacking and applying pressure."
How do you feel team played overall through course of weekend?
"I think it was a good weekend. We had our ups and our downs and it was a really good learning experience. We have a lot of young people on this team so to play top-quality teams and get these results is awesome."
Head Coach Anson Dorrance:
Has Ohai earned a regular starting spot in the rotation?
"Absolutely. I think she actually won her starting role during the Texas A & M tournament ... In fact, before the Michigan State game, we told her she had won a starting position. She's the real deal. She's very active. Her one-v-one is wonderful. Obviously she has to become a bit more sophisticated and a better playmaker, but when she goes to the goal things happen."
RE: copious substitutions
"All of these kids work hard in practice. So if we are in a position where we can play the entire roster, we're going to and we had a chance today. It was cool watching them play and it's neat that Barkley Minton finished a great chance from distance ... So I don't know how valuable it was for us in terms of their development but in terms of their morale, I think the chance to play the entire roster was huge."
RE: more shots vs. Missouri than Stanford
"Stanford, on paper, is probably the best team in the country. So playing a team of Stanford's caliber, it is going to be difficult to even get a shot, much less get them in bunches. Stanford is just going to restrict many teams' chances to shoot. The neat thing about today, though, is that both teams run a semi-flat-back 1-3-4-3, which is a very aggressive playing style. So when you're playing this style, a lot of good things happen."
