CHAPEL HILL - No. 28 UNC fell to ITA Kickoff regional host Georgia 4-2 Monday afternoon.
The loss to the seventh-ranked Bulldogs is the Tar Heels' first of the season.
Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy began doubles play with an 8-6 victory that improved their record to 4-0 at the No. 1 spot this season. Georgia fought back to win the second and third flights, which clinched the team point.
Drake Bernstein extended the Bulldogs lead to two with the first win in singles play, but Donato made the team score 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nate Schnugg. After Jamie Hunt followed with a three-set victory to give Georgia a two-point lead once again, Jose Hernandez answered with a 6-4, 7-6 upset of No. 45 Javier Garrapiz. Bo Seal closed the match for Georgia with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the fifth singles flight.
Carolina returns home next for a doubleheader Thursday against Charlotte and Richmond. The Tar Heels will play the 49ers at 2:30 p.m. and the Spiders at 7.
