CHAPEL HILL --- The North Carolina women's tennis team concluded its fall season Sunday with the final day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Shinann Featherston scored her third singles victory of the weekend to claim fourth place in the individual standings.
UNC opened the final day of play with three doubles matches against opponents from Vanderbilt. The Tar Heels dropped two of three to the Commodores, but Featherston and Lauren McHale notched an impressive 9-8 (5) win over 13th-ranked Chelsea Preeg and Jackie Wu.
In the final singles session of the tournament for Carolina, the hosts split six matches with opponents from ACC rival Georgia Tech.
Featherston defeated the Yellow Jackets' Christina Ngo in short order, taking the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Gina Suarez-Malaguti defeated Tech's Sasha Krupina, 6-3, 6-3, while Laura Slater was also a straight-set winner over Rocio Lopez, 6-3, 6-1.
Champions were crowned in both singles and doubles, with Texas A&M's Nazari Urbina taking singles honors and teams from Virginia and Georgia Tech sharing the doubles title.
