No. 13 UNC Rolls Past Maryland, 7-0

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 13 North Carolina defeated an injury-plagued Maryland squad in short order, 7-0, Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels did not drop a set in five singles wins, as the Terrapins were forced to default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Sanaz Marand improved to a perfect 11-0 in dual match play with a 6-0, 6-4, win at No. 2 singles.
Carolina (8-4) quickly took the doubles point with a pair of 8-1 victories. Marand and fellow sophomore Katrina Tsang dropped Michal Amir and Lisa Miller at No. 1, while juniors Austin Smith and Meg Fanjoy defeated Maggie MacKeever and Julia Huschke at No. 2.
It was more of the same for the Tar Heels in singles action, as the hosts were already up 2-0 thanks to the default win at No. 6. No. 100 Smith made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over MacKeever at No. 3 before No. 10 Marand clinched the victory at No. 2.
Senior Alexandra Jurewitz topped Miller 6-0, 7-6 (1) at No. 5, No. 26 Tsang dispatched Amir, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 and Fanjoy dropped Huschke, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4.
Sophomore Linzee Mabrey was set to play at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, but Maryland's Adela Matejkova was injured in warmups.
UNC returns to action tomorrow morning against Boston College. Doubles play is set to begin at 1 p.m.
