PHILADELPHIA --- Jocelyn White's crown in the championship division of the women's discus highlighted day two at the Penn Relays for the North Carolina men's and women's track teams.
White posted a 171-6 toss to claim the title in the event, improving upon her runner-up finish at the meet last year. Her mark edged the throw by Purdue's Astin Steward by three inches as the two were the only competitors to top 170-feet. Riana Lynn finished eighth in the event for the Tar Heels, recording a 153-10 heave.
For the UNC men, Britt Taylor posted the best long jump for a Tar Heel this year, jumping 23-9 to finish fifth.
Carolina also picked up fifth-place finishes from two of its relay teams on the day. The 4x100-meter relay team of Vanneisha Ivy, Shardae Anderson, Judith Bataille, and Tyra Johnson clocked a 45.64 in placing fifth, while Johnson, Bataille, Anderson and Georgia Kloss teamed up for a 3:52.22 time to finish fifth in the College Women's Sprint Medley Championship of America.
Action for UNC resumes tomorrow at 11 a.m. when Nick Owens (hammer), Justin Ryncavage (javelin) and Adam Montague (javelin) all will be in action.
