CARY, N.C. --- No. 10 North Carolina rallied to claim a tight doubles point and cruised to three singles wins in a 4-0 win over No. 17 Wake Forest Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the ACC Women's Tennis Championships at the Cary Tennis Park. The third-seeded Tar Heels will meet second-seeded and fifth-ranked Georgia Tech in the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m.
Wake Forest (14-7) opened up an early lead in the doubles point with a convincing 8-1 win by Ana German and Sasha Kulikova at No. 2 doubles. But Carolina (21-7) would get wins at the other two positions to claim the point. No. 5 Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long rallied from an early deficit to claim an 8-6 win at No. 1, while Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith closed out Sierra Poske and Christine Simpson at No. 3 to clinch the point.
The Tar Heels jumped out to early leads on five of the six singles courts and closed out wins at the top three positions to secure the 4-0 victory. No. 4 Long topped No. 61 Alex Hirsch 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 shortly before No. 48 Tsang defeated No. 108 Ashlee Davis 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Caitlin Collins clinched the win at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ana Jerman.
UNC also led at No. 4 and No. 6 when the match was halted. No. 102 Smith was serving for the match at 5-3 when Collins gave Carolina the win.
Carolina will look to avenge a pair of 4-3 losses to Georgia Tech on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets topped the Tar Heels at the ITA National Indoor Tournament in February and won in Atlanta on March 31.
