No. 8 Carolina Tops No. 31 Tennessee, 6-1

CHAPEL HILL --- No. 8 North Carolina ran its record to 5-0 with a 6-1 win over No. 31 Tennessee Wednesday at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Center. One year after defeating 17 ranked opponents, the Tar Heels easily got past their first ranked foe of 2007.
UNC swept the doubles point for the fifth straight match to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 16 duo of Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles over Ghizela Schutte and Connor Vogel. No. 24 Caitlin Collins and Sanaz Marand scored an 8-2 win at No. 2 over Samantha Orlin and Caitlin Whoriskey. Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith rounded out the sweep with an 8-1 victory over Blakeley Griffith and Zsofia Zubor at No. 3.
Marand, the No. 73-ranked singles player in the nation, opened singles play with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over No. 87 Victoria Jones at No. 6. After Collins lost to Whoriskey at No. 4, Anundsen extended the Carolina lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Orlin at No. 5.
Long, the seventh-ranked player in America, clinched the win at No. 1 singles. Long defeated No. 12 Griffith 6-2, 7-5, rallying from down a break in the second set for the win.
Shortly after Long sealed it, No. 33 Smith finished off Vogel at No. 3, 6-2, 6-3. No. 19 Tsang won the final match of the day, a three-set marathon over Schutte, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Next up for Carolina is No. 2 Florida. The Tar Heels and Gators will meet in Gainesville on Sunday at 1 p.m.
