No. 25 Carolina Falls To Michigan State, 5-3

OCA RATON, Fla. --- No. 25 North Carolina dropped its second straight game in the FAU Parents' Weekend Tournament Saturday morning, falling to Michigan State, 5-3. Dayna Feenstra was 3 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Spartan offense, while Lesley Noel and Megan Hair combined to allow no earned runs over seven innings. Freshman Lisa Norris started in the circle for the Tar Heels and fell to 8-3 on the season.
Carolina (22-9) took an early lead with an unearned run in the top of the first. With one out, sophomore left fielder Ashley Oxendine reached on an error and took second on a wild pitch. Sophomore Jennifer Jacobs then continued her hot hitting in the tournament with an RBI single to right, making it 1-0.
MSU (14-7) struck back in the bottom of the second courtesy of the long ball. Feenstra singled to left with two outs to bring up Dana Rosenblatt. Rosenblatt drove a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left center, giving the Spartans a 2-1 lead. Michigan State added a pair of runs in the third when Feenstra came up with a two-out RBI single.
The Tar Heels rallied for two in the sixth to pull within one. Sophomore Casey Testa led off with a double to left center. Pinch runner Marissa May would later score when Traci Nicosia's throw to third went into the dugout. After a fly out, freshman Emily Troup singled home Norris to make it 4-3.
The Spartans would add an insurance run in the sixth on a Feenstra double, and Hair put the Tar Heels down in order in the seventh for her third save of the year.
Carolina returns to action Saturday night against the host Florida Atlantic Owls. First pitch is set for 8.
