
Carolina Women's Tennis Downs NC State 6-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - The 14th-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team won its fourth straight match and fourth ACC victory as it defeated No. 75 NC State 6-1 Wednesday afternoon. Carolina improves to 16-6 on the season while the Wolfpack fall to 8-11 and 0-7 in the ACC.
UNC will continue its ACC play as it hosts No.61 Maryland on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Virginia on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Carolina won all three doubles matches, losing only four games combined. Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis, the nation's sixth-ranked team, cruised 8-1 at the No. 1 seed. Sophomores Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long, ranked 24th, defeated NC State's Julia Roach and Elin Johansson 8-2 at the No. 2 seed. Caitlin Collins and Tanja Markovic continued their dominating play with an 8-1 win at the No. 3 seed over Virginia Romero and Carmen Torres.
In singles action, Carolina won at the top five seeds. Mojzis, ranked 31st in singles, cruised at the No. 1 seed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Johansson. Long played at the No. 2 seed and won 6-0, 6-2. Anundsen outlasted Roach in a three-set win at the No. 3 seed.
Collins rolled in the second set at the No. 4 seed, beating Danielle Stadelmann 7-6, 6-0. Freshman Charlotte Tansill defeated Torres at the No. 5 seed, 6-5, 4-6(10-3).
