Carolina Wrestling Falls to Drexel and No. 25 Penn

Philadelphia, Pa. - The North Carolina wrestling team lost matches to Drexel and Penn on Saturday. Tar Heels Evan Sola and Justin Dobies both posted two wins on the day. After Saturday Sola improves to 24-3 on the season and 11-0 in duals.
Despite taking five of ten bouts against Drexel the Tar Heels finished one point short with a final score of 21-20. After starting the match at the 174-pound weigh class, UNC heavyweight Spencer Nadolsky sparked a three-bout winning streak for the Tar Heels by posting a 9-6 decision over Drexel's Chris Cowen. In the next match Carolina wrestler Bobby Shaw won by technical fall (4:51) in the 125-pound weight class. All-America Evan Sola, currently ranked 11th in the country, gave UNC its largest lead of the match after a win by fall against Drexel's Zach Makovsky at 133-pounds, putting North Carolina up 17-6.
After dropping the next two bouts to Drexel the Tar Heels held a 17-15 lead. However, a forfeit in the 157-pound weight class put Drexel ahead by a score of 21-17. In the final bout of the match North Carolina junior Garret Atkinson defeated Drexel's Billy Haydt by a decision of 6-4. The decision, however, left the Tar Heels a point shy of tying the match.
In their next match of the day the Tar Heels faced the 25th ranked University of Pennsylvania. Penn got out to a 12-3 lead after the first five matches. However, North Carolina came up with back-to-back wins in the 133- and 141-pound weight classes to bring the match within two points, 10-12. Evan Sola clinched an 8-2 decision over Penn's Mike Silengo at 133-pounds. In the next match freshman Isaiah Britton from Williamsport, Pa., defeated Penn's Shawn Protz in a major decision 11-2. Penn, however, went on to claim the next three matches in route to a 24-10 victory.
After Saturday's losses the Tar Heels drop to 4-7 overall (3-1 ACC). The team returns to action on February 11 when they face ACC opponent Virginia Tech at home.
