HANOVER, N.H.. -- Freshman Christina Juras scored twice to lead the 12th-ranked University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team to a 5-3 win over No. 9 Dartmouth at Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday afternoon, keeping the Tar Heels' NCAA Tournament hopes alive. Juras scored on a free position shot and Dieringer tallied an unassisted goal to provide the Tar Heels with a two-goal advantage. Smith closed out the scoring in the first half when she scored off a free position shot with 7:31 left in the period.
The Tar Heels regained the two-goal cushion after Allen took the ball from Dartmouth goalie Devon Wills and scored. Dartmouth would close the gap when Smith fed Kristen Zimmer, who rifled a high shot past Hordy to make it a 4-3 game. Juras closed out the scoring when she raced through a wide open lane on the left side and deposited the ball in the lower right corner.
Carolina was able to maintain possession for much of the final four minutes and held on for the victory. The three goals scored by Dartmouth were the lowest total allowed by the Carolina defense all season. The previous low was four versus Penn State on March 28.
