
Men's Tennis swamps Maryland, 7-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 25th-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team made quick work of the Maryland Terrapins, Saturday at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Tar Heels (15-5, 6-1 ACC) dominated the Terps (7-9, 1-7 ACC) from the very beginning of the match, winning all three doubles and the six singles matches in straight sets.
The 51st-ranked team of senior Marcio Petrone and junior Greg Archer defeated 50th-ranked Haris Causevic and Jonathan Murchison, 8-2 in doubles action. Sophomore Nicholas Monroe and freshman Daniel Pinchbeck followed suit by blanking the team of Troy Domers and David Reichstold, 8-0. The #3 doubles team of freshman Geoff Boyd and junior Trystan Meniane completed the sweep for the Tar Heels in doubles action as UNC took a 1-0 point advantage early in the match. (The team that wins two of three doubles matches receives an overall team point)
The Heels continued to dominate the Terps in singles action as all six players won their matches in straight sets. Petrone, who is ranked #53 in the nation, downed Haris Causevic at the#1 position, 6-3, 6-3. While Meniane, Pichbeck, Monroe, Boyd and sophomore Andy Metzler easily handled their respective opponents.
The Tar Heels will now travel to Vurginia to face the Cavaliers tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. A win against the Wahoos will clinch a second place finish in the ACC for the Tar Heels. UNC has finished first, second or third in the ACC in 13 of the last 14 seasons.
