
Women's Lacrosse Tops Johns Hopkins, 15-5

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kellie Thompson scored four goals and Erin McInnes had two goals and four assists as the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team cruised to a 15-5 win over Johns Hopkins on Friday evening at Henry Stadium.
With the win, Carolina improved to 2-0 on the season. Johns Hopkins, which lost, 7-4, to Vanderbilt last Sunday, falls to 0-2.
Christine McPike had three goals in the game for UNC, increasing her team-leading total to eight this season. Lindsay Stone and Brooke Young each added two goals for the Tar Heels.
Heidi Pearce scored three times to lead the Blue Jays.
Carolina scored four times in the first 10 minutes of play and led 8-1 at halftime. After Pearce scored the Blue Jays' only goal of the first half to cut it to 4-1, the Tar Heels ripped off five more scores to end the half. Thompson had three goals at intermission, while Stone and McPike had two goals each at halftime. McInnes had three assists at the break.
In the second half, Carolina outscored Hopkins 6-4 as McInnes scored twice. Johns Hopkins never got closer than nine goals after halftime.
The Tar Heels will return to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they host seven-time defending national champion Maryland at Henry Stadium.
