KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Carolina owns its first losing streak of the season after falling to the eighth-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers, 5-2 Sunday afternoon.
The tenth-ranked Tar Heels also lost to 16th-ranked Kentucky on the road Saturday, 5-2 to kick off the tough two-match road trip. Carolina's Kate Pinchbeck and Lee Bairos once again claimed the Tar Heels' two points with respective victories at the third and fifth flight, as they did against Kentucky.
Pinchbeck's 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(4) victory over Kim Gates was her 10th of the season to maintain her undefeated record. Bairos won due to injury default after Majen Immink withdrew because of injury while losing 4-1 in the first set.
The loss drops the Tar Heels to 7-3 on the season with seven matches against top 20 opponents. Carolina returns home Saturday, March 2 to face Illinois.
