Chapel Hill, N.C. -- The 10th-ranked Tar Heels scored a 6-1 victory over 19th-ranked William & Mary to claim their fourth win in five matches against top 20 teams.
Junior Kate Pinchbeck led the way with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Angela Buergis in flight three. The victory was Pinchbeck's eighth victory in as many matches this season in which she has dropped only one set. She attributes her work over the winter break as playing a part in her dominant play.
"I played a lot of tennis while I was home and I guess it carried over," Pinchbeck said.
Senior Caroline Hill won a three set match over Amy Wei, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to clinch the victory for the Tar Heels. Kendall Cline won in straight sets while Julie Rotondi and Aniela Mojzis also won their matches to round out Carolina's singles victories on the day.
The tandems of Pinchbeck and Rotondi and Cline and Mojzis also won their doubles matches to claim the doubles point and give the Tar Heels an early lead.
The Tar Heels have more tough tests ahead of them as they will face 16th-ranked Kentucky Saturday and eighth-ranked Tennessee on Sunday, both matches on the road.
