Softball Sweeps Appalachian State At Home

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The University of North Carolina softball team extended it's winning streak to five games in a row Sunday afternoon with a pair of wins over Appalachian State at Finley Field. The Tar Heels defeated the Mountaineers 10-0 in the first game of the double header and 6-1 in the second game.
UNC is now 5-1 and will host Minnesota on Thursday February 15 at 2 p.m. Appalachian State falls to 0-4 on the season.
In Game 1, seniors Beth Olen and Michelle Semmes and junior Kelly Ramsey contributed extra base hits, each going 2-3 for the day. The Tar Heels began the game scoring four runs in the first inning off of two Mountaineer errors. Senior Radara McHugh gained the win for the Tar Heels striking out 6 batters and improving her overall record to 3-1.
In Game 2, Sophomore Michael Parrott contributed to the Tar Heels victory through her run scoring double in the first inning and by gaining her second win with 13 strikeouts. She struck out at least one batter in each inning. After the game Parrott said, "I knew what I had to do and I just went out there and did it." The Tar Heels scored four first inning runs with help from senior Michelle Semmes? triple. Junior Kelly Ramsey went two for two with a walk and two doubles. The Mountaineers scored in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Wendy Lewis.
