Carolina Wrestlers take 22nd at Las Vegas Invitational

The University of North Carolina wrestling team earned a 22nd-place finish this weekend at the Las Vegas Invitational. Chris Rodrigues was the highest placing Tar Heel, taking 8th place at 125 pounds.
Rodrigues defeated Adam Mars (Adams State) 11-7 in the second round, before dropping a 4-3 decision to A.J. Grant (Michigan) in the quarterfinals and a 6-2 decision to Nathan Peterson (Stanford) in the seventh-place match.
Mark Canty (184 pounds) went 3-2 for the tournament, winning three straight matches after dropping a 6-5 decision to Pittsburgh's Dan Stine in the first round.
Brad Byers (141 pounds) also finished with a 3-2 mark. Byers rebounded from a first-round loss to win three consecutive matches before falling to Central Oklahoma's Matt Dodgen in the consolotation round.
Also wrestling for the Tar Heels were Evan Sola (133 pounds), Andrew Slack (149 pounds), Chris DiGuiseppe (157 pounds), Jake Reynolds (165 pounds), Dusty Heist (174 pounds), Nick Richmond (197 pounds) and Matt Kenny (heavyweight).
