* North Carolina captured its first-ever national
championship, 2-0, in its first appearance in the championship game.
* This was Indiana's 11th appearance in the championship game.
They have won five and lost six.
* The shutout by the Tar Heels was their third of the
tournament, all notched by senior Michael Ueltschey.
* Indiana was held to just one shot in the second half, and
six for the game.
* North Carolina forward Ryan Kneipper's game-winning goal was
his fifth of the 2001 tournament, making him the leading goal scorer in this
year's championship.
* Kneipper was named the tournament's Most Valuable Offensive
Player.
* North Carolina defender David Stokes was named the
tournament's Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
* North Carolina Defender Danny Jackson's penalty kick goal
was his first goal of the tournament.
* Matt Crawford and Grant Porter tallied the game-winning
assists for UNC.
* Kneipper and Mike Gell each had two game-winning goals in
the tournament, while Grant Porter had two game-winning assists, including
today's.
* With their semifinal victory, Indiana tied Saint Louis for
first place in NCAA Tournament history with 62 victories.
* Indiana forward Pat Noonan ended the tournament with three
goals and three assists.
