Carolina Women's Tennis Falls To No. 37 Arkansas, 5-2

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina's women's tennis season ended Friday with a 5-2 loss to the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament at the Duke University Tennis Stadium.
Carolina's lone points on the day came from junior Courtney Zalinski, who downed Tara Reid (6-4, 6-2) at No. 5 singles, and junior Kristin Koenig, who beat Julia Boyadjieva (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6.
Freshman Kendrick Bunn and sophomore Caroline Hill lost three-set thrillers at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
Arkansas secured the victory with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles by Chin Bee Khoo and Brenda Vlasak over freshman Marlene Mejia and senior Jessica Zaganczyk. With the outcome decided, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles were not played.
The Tar Heels, tied for 40th in the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings, finish the season at 10-14 overall and 2-6 in the ACC. No. 37 Arkansas moves to 10-12 overall with the victory, which was the 100th of Lady Razorbacks' coach Kevin Platt's career.
Arkansas will meet the winner of Friday's Duke-Winthrop tilt on Saturday.
