
Softball Sweeps Radford In Doubleheader

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina softball team improved its season record to 4-0 with a sweep over the Radford Highlanders in today's doubleheader. The Tar Heels again relied on solid pitching performances along with offensive bursts to take both games.
In Game 1 the Tar Heels jumped out to the early lead on an RBI single from Kelly Ramsey which scored Jen Klesaris. Ramsey followed up her impressive offense perfomance against Elon on Thursday with another outstanding day. She finished the first game 2-for-3 including a walk and three RBI's. Entering the top of the sixth the Heels led 4-1 before the Carolina offense exploded for five runs to make the score 9-1 and end the game.
The Tar Heels received a solid pitching perfomance in the first game from freshman Michael Parrott, who allowed one run on one hit while striking out six for the victory. Beth Olen also led the Tar Heels with two hits, including a double and a triple which produced two RBI's.
In Game 2, Radford got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second off of a Tar Heel error. Carolina responded in the bottom half of the inning when Carrie Bates doubled home Olen to tie the score at 1-1. The Tar Heels put five more runs on the board and withstood a late surge by the Highlanders to win the game with a final score of 6-3. Olen was 2-for-2 at the plate, while Bateshad an RBI double and Natalie Anter contributed an RBI single.
Radara McHugh got the win for the Tar Heels, striking out six and giving up four hits and two earned runs.
The Tar Heels host the University of Minnesota for a doubleheader on Thursday, February 17, beginning at 2 p.m. at Finley Field.
