
Tar Heel Softball Takes Two Over Minnesota

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team continued its winning ways today by sweeping a doubleheader from the University of Minnesota at Finley Field. The Tar Heels improve their record to 6-0 while Minnesota falls to 3-5 on the season. The Tar Heels defeated Minnesota 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
In the first game, Carolina got an outstanding pitching performance from junior Radara McHugh who allowed only one hit and four walks while striking out nine Gophers. The lone hit was a bunt single from Minnesota's Tammi Hays. Crystal Henderson and Jen Klesaris each collected two hits for the Tar Heels and combined to drive in all the runs for the Tar Heels.
In game two Erin Joseph took the mound for the Tar Heels and allowed only three hits while striking out seven Minnesota batters. Jen Klesaris who collected two hits and scored two runs for the Tar Heels led the Carolina offense. Natalie Anter got UNC on the board in the third inning when she singled home Klesaris. Minnesota freshman pitcher Angie Recknor took both losses for the Gophers.
The Tar Heels now turn their attention towards this weekend's Triangle Classic which is February 18-20 at Walnut Creek Softball Complex. This tournament is hosted by UNC and the even includes 25 teams. Games will begin at noon on Friday with UNC taking the field for their first game at 4p.m against Purdue and again at 6 p.m. against Temple. Saturday and Sunday games will begin at 10 a.m. The tournament championship game is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.. Admission is $3 and any girls wearing their softball jerseys will be admitted for free.
