No. 4 Women's Lacrosse Eases Past Temple, 14-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina's fourth-ranked women's lacrosse team employed a balanced scoring attack Thursday afternoon to defeat 19th-ranked Temple 14-1 before a crowd of 300 fans at Fetzer Field.
A troika of attackers-senior Erin McGinnis, junior Kristin Off and freshman Erin McInnes-each scored three goals to lead the attack as Carolina won its second in a row and improved to 3-2 on the season. Temple fell to 0-2 on the campaign.
Off added two assists and McGinnis one to their three-goal totals, while freshman midfielders Christine McPike and Kellie Thompson also had big offensive contributions. McPike scored twice while Thompson had one goal and three assists.
The game was a far cry from last year's NCAA quarterfinal game between the two teams in Chapel Hill when UNC edged the Owls 11-10 on a last-minute goal by Lori Pasquantonio. UNC led Thursday's game at the half 6-0 and then scored the first five goals of the second half to build an 11-0 lead before Nicole Ross scored the Owls' lone goal of the game 15:33 into the second half.
Thompson, McInnes and Eden Rellihan then finished off the scored for UNC to make the final tally 14-1.
Carolina launched 28 shots on goal while limiting Temple to nine. Iris Alavarado played all 60 minutes in goal for Temple, making 13 saves. Debbie Castine had three saves for Carolina in about 38 minutes of action and Melissa Coyne finished up with four saves in the final 22 minutes.
