Women's Tennis Wins Third Straight Match

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina's 48th-ranked women's tennis team continued its clutch play Saturday afternoon as it defeated 34th-ranked Wisconsin 6-3 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the UNC campus.
The victory was the third in a row for Coach Roland Thornqvist's team and it improved Carolina's overall record to 8-3 on the season. The Tar Heels have already won three more matches this season than they did all of last year when they finished 5-17. The 34th-ranked Badgers fell to 3-8 on the season.
After winning four of the six singles matches, UNC's #1 doubles team of Cena Hackler and Jessica Zaganczyk held serve to win at #1 doubles over the 39th-ranked Wisconsin duo of Andrea Nathan and Barbara Urbanska. 8-5. With the win, doubles team of Hackler and Zaganczyk improved to 6-2 on the season at #1 doubles.
Carolina led 4-2 after singles play after UNC freshman Caroline Hill gave the Tar Heels a key victory at #2 singles over 58th-ranked Andrea Nathan. At #6 singles, Tar Heel junior Jeni Burnette improved her dual-match record to 11-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Roz Sweeney of Wisconsin. UNC will return to action on Monday with a match against Furman at 2:30 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
