Tar Heel Gymnasts Top James Madison

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Gymnastics team defeated James Madison University 191.725 - 188.750 in a Friday evening meet. The Heels' score set a new Godwin Hall record at JMU that was previously held by NC State (190.75).
Carolina sophomore Brooke Wilson continued her all-around dominance claiming her fourth all-around title in as many tries with a final score of 38.600. Wilson claimed first on vault (9.700), second on beam (9.725), fourth on bars (9.575) and tenth on floor (9.600). The Tar Heels swept the beam with freshman Lisa Companioni placing first on beam with a score of 9.750, Wilson finishing second, and junior Erica Roberts claiming third place (9.700). Carolina also swept the vault with Wilson finishing first, and freshman Monica Middleton and junior Julie Pasqualini tying for second with a 9.600. Pasqualini also finished in the top three in bars (9.725) and floor (9.775).
James Madison was led by Rachel Malinowski who set a new JMU and Godwin Hall record on the floor with a score of 9.875. Teammate Courtney Flynn was not far behind on floor taking second place with a 9.800.
The Tar Heels return home this Friday to face Auburn at 7:00 p.m. The meet will be held in Carmichael Auditorium and admission is free.
