Men's Tennis Upsets Florida State

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Playing at home for the second time in 26 days, the 75th-ranked University of North Carolina men's tennis team grabbed its second ACC victory Sunday afternoon as the Tar Heels edged past the 61-ranked Florida State Seminoles 4-3 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
UNC clinched the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2. Senior Michael Grass and freshman Ben Elix defeated Florida State's Ty Braswell and Davidson Kozlowski 8-6, while Remi Adamek and Assaf Drori defeated Noah Schnell and Jeff Scarella 8-3. Carolina's David Cheatwood and Bjorn Rencken fell to Florida State's Mike Ingham and Yvo Niks 8-2.
Rencken clinched the match for the Tar Heels with a come back victory over FSU's Chad Mooney. The South African freshman fought back after a 3-6 loss in the first set to seal the Tar Heel victory with a final score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Drori and Cheatwood also earned points for the Heels at #2 and #3 respectively. Drori won a tight 6-3, 6-4 match against FSU's Kozzlowski, while FSU's Ingham defaulted after a 6-4, 4-1 match score to UNC's Cheatwood.
UNC pushed its overall record at 9-8 and ACC record to 2-0 with the win over FSU. The Seminoles fell to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in ACC matches. The Tar Heels will play host to #44-ranked Miami on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m.
