Quinn Madden joined the UNC Department of Athletics in June 2025 and serves as the director of special projects/communications. In this role, Madden is a vital part of formulating, planning, sharing and amplifying the story of Carolina Athletics while leading special projects for the department and working closely with the senior associate athletic director for external affairs and strategic communications.
Madden also assists with content and social media efforts for the department and coordinates the annual RAMMY Awards and UNC Sport and Entertainment Summit.
Prior to relocating to Chapel Hill, Madden earned a Master of Science (M.S.) with a concentration in sport management from the University of Tennessee, while serving as a strategic communications graduate assistant. She served as the primary contact for the women’s tennis team, secondary contact for the women’s basketball team and the tertiary contact for the football team. Madden was one of five graduate students awarded the Volunteer of Distinction, an honor recognizing students for their academic excellence.
During Madden's two-year stint in Knoxville, she administered all communication efforts for the Lady Vol women’s tennis team in its historic advancement to the 2024 NCAA Final Four for the second time in program history and the 2025 squad that reached the Elite Eight. She also spearheaded the promotion of the 2024 ITA National Head Coach of the Year, Alison Ojeda.
Madden also worked closely with the Lady Vol basketball team, which advanced to the Sweet 16 for the 37th time in program history under first-year head coach Kim Caldwell. Madden traveled with the team, while collaborating on game notes, managing game day operations and coordinating player interviews.
In her role with Tennessee football, Madden assisted with the day-to-day communications operations, coordinated various interviews and worked closely with the football communications team to ensure the highest quality and positive image for the team. She also attended 2024 SEC Media Days with the Vols.
Prior to relocating to Knoxville, Madden earned her first SID role while still a senior at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. Madden accepted an offer of a contractual position from James Madison University, where she served as the primary contact for JMU cheerleading, softball and volleyball, as well as the secondary contact for women’s basketball from January to June of 2023.
Madden spent the summer of 2022 completing a volunteer internship with JMU’s athletics communications department. While in Harrisonburg, Va., she accepted a second volunteer position as a social media intern for the Valley League’s Harrisonburg Turks collegiate baseball team. During the previous summer, Madden volunteered in the sports information department at Potomac State College, a NJCCA D1 in Keyser, W.Va.
At the start of the 2021 football season, Shepherd University head football coach Ernie McCook appointed Madden to assist with the football team’s social media, recruiting and graphic design needs. During Madden’s two-year stint in this role, the Rams finished as back-to-back 2021 and 2022 Division II national semifinalists and 2021 Harlon Hill Trophy winner and 2022 Harlon Hill Trophy finalist quarterback Tyson Bagent set the NCAA record (over all divisions) for most TD passes in a career with 159.
The Maryland native graduated magna cum laude in three years from Shepherd University with a recreation and sport studies—sport communication, B.S. She was named Shepherd's 2022 Outstanding Student in Sport Communication and also held various leadership positions within her sorority, Delta Zeta.
At Shepherd, Madden spent the first two years of her undergraduate career as a member of the women’s tennis team, which played in Division II’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Madden was named a 2021 Division II Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athlete and also earned the PSAC Scholar Athlete Award in 2021 and 2022.
