Jeremy Sharpe joined the North Carolina athletics department in March 2019 as the Director of Football Communications and Branding and is now the Assistant A.D. for Football Communications and Branding. In this role, Sharpe serves as the primary media relations contact for Carolina football and head coach Mack Brown, while overseeing all external branding initiatives for the program. He also oversees all football social media and serves as the primary liaison between the football program and Go Heels Productions and Creative Services, Athletic Communications, Athletics Marketing and other supporting units.
Sharpe spent the previous five years as the Associate A.D. for Communication Services for Arizona Athletics. His primary duties included the implementation of all communication strategies for the athletics department and managing budget and resource allocation for communication services, while overseeing seven full-time staffers and 10 student assistants. He worked with all arms of the external operations staff to provide messaging for the Wildcat Club, C.A.T.S. Academics, marketing, ticketing and other strategic initiatives. Sharpe also oversaw the production of Wildcat Wednesday, the Athletics Director’s weekly e-mail communication sent to over 180,000 subscribers. In addition, in the fall of 2016, he was appointed as sport liaison for soccer and worked closely with the soccer staff and administration to support the program.
From 2010-13, Sharpe worked at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he served as the Assistant A.D. for Communications. While at USF, he oversaw all aspects of communications for the athletics department, while serving as the primary contact for the football program. As part of the external leadership team, Sharpe developed messaging and strategic advice for communications, marketing, ticket operations, IMG sponsorship and broadcasting, and donor functions. He also led a restructuring of the communications office resulting in the hiring of a full-time writer and the creation of a multimedia department. Those changes, and an increased focus on internal coverage, produced an increase of five million page views, helping to enhance USF’s brand.
Prior to USF, Sharpe spent six years as Assistant and Associate Media Relations Director at Texas. During his time with the Longhorns, he served as a media relations liaison between the Texas athletics department and all media outlets for football, track and field and the prestigious Texas Relays. He also developed and maintained external messaging for the athletics department and managed social media elements for both football and track and field. In addition, he assisted in all facets of communications, including media campaigns for players, coaches and the department. Sharpe worked on numerous national award campaigns that helped produce 27 All-Americans, three Heisman Trophy finalists, two National Players of the Year and numerous other individual athletic and academic awards.
A 1999 graduate from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. with a bachelor's degree in communications, Sharpe went on to earn a master's degree from George Washington University in 2004. While earning his master's degree in Tourism Administration (with a concentration in Sports Management), he served as a graduate assistant and managed the day-to-day communications for the Colonials' nationally-ranked women's basketball team, men's and women's cross country, gymnastics, men's and women's tennis and softball teams.
Sharpe started his career in public relations at Edelman Public Relations in September 1999, where he managed the day-to-day coordination of one of the firms' pharmaceutical clients, coordinating activities of both junior and senior-level staff. In addition, he designed and developed a website for Wash America, a PR Week and Sabre-award-winning campaign to raise money for victims of 9/11.
A Hummelstown, Pa. native, Sharpe is married to Amy McMillan Sharpe, who serves as a Senior Vice President with global public relations and integrated marketing communications firm FleishmanHillard. The couple has two daughters, Addison and Sydney.
