Jaelynn Murray Burrus
- Title:
- Director of Women's Basketball
Former Tar Heel team captain Jaelynn Murray Burrus joined the staff in July of 2023. Following three years as the Assistant Director of Recruiting Operations, Murray Burrus was elevated to the Director of Women's Basketball.
“Jaelynn is one of the easiest hires I’ve ever made in over 20 years as a head coach. I watched as she handled adversity and change as a player and benefited immensely from her leadership as a member of our staff. She is an elite human with contagious energy and an uncompromising work ethic,” said head coach Courtney Banghart.
“She is one of our great Tar Heels and it’s only fitting that she now steps into this important role of Director of Women’s Basketball, at this unique time in college athletics. She will continue to lead us with consistency, integrity and the highest level of care. Simply put, to know Jaelynn is to be impacted by her.”
A 2022 graduate, Murray spent a year as an intern with UNC's Rams Club, working as part of the Communications team, before joining the women’s basketball staff.
A forward from Columbia, S.C., Murray majored in Information Science, earning her undergraduate degree in May of 2021. She took a fifth season with the team while earning a master's degree in Educational Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship through the UNC School of Education.
“There is truly no better place to be than Carolina,” said Murray. “I am tremendously grateful for all Coach Banghart has done for me as a player and as a professional and excited to continue to elevate the level of this program.
Murray is the second former player on the staff, joining former teammate Liz Roberts, who currently serves as the team's General Manager.
