This year he joins the paid staff as a restricted earnings coach.
Weeks also serves as the head web designer for PlanetiBiz, working from his home. Weeks began swimming in summer leagues as a youth in his hometown of Raleigh, N.C., before attending Leesville Road High School, from which he graduated in 1996. While at Leesville Road, he was named the most valuable swimmer on the team twice and was the captain of the swimming team as a senior. He also swam with his club team, the Tar Heel Aqua Racers, as an age grouper and all through high school.
Weeks was a four-year swimming letterman for the Tar Heels from 1996-2000, serving as a team tri-captain in 1999-2000. He swam as a scoring participant in the ACC Championships four times, helping lead Carolina to Atlantic Coast Conference championships in both 1997 and 1998. He was an ACC Championships finalist twice, finishing eighth in the 200-yard butterfly in 1998 and third in the same event as a senior in 2000. He was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor both his junior and senior years.
David Joshua Weeks was born January 3, 1978 in Rochester, N.Y. The son of Josh and Sue Weeks, Weeks has a younger sister, Kelly, who is a sophomore on the current Carolina team. She was an ACC champion and first-team All-America as a freshman last year. David’s hobbies include going to the beach and surfing. He maintains the Carolina swimming team’s unofficial web site at www.tarheelswimming.com. His pets include three sheep--Grace, Mary and Will--all neighborhood strays that he adopted.
