Pottebaum Named ACC Defensive Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Carolina field hockey captain Grace Pottebaum earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.

It was a dominant defensive display over the weekend from Pottebaum and the Tar Heels that saw them emerge from their biennial west coast road trip with wins over Stanford and No. 17 Cal. A late goal when already up 8-0 on the Cardinal was the only time UNC allowed their west coast compatriots on the scoresheet.

Across the two games, Carolina only allowed five shots (two on goal) and two penalty corners. In their win on Sunday against Cal, the Golden Bears did not muster a shot on goal or a corner. It was the first time the UNC did not allow a shot on goal this season.

It is the third straight season the St. Alban's, Mo., native has received the honor. She joins teammates Sofia Ferri and Merritt Skubisz who won the award earlier this year.
