March 6, 2026 | Men's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina freshman forward Caleb Wilson broke his right thumb in a non-contact drill in practice on Thursday, March 5. He will need surgery and is out for the rest of the season.
Previously, he broke a bone in his left hand at Miami on February 10 and had missed Carolina's last six games.
He was cleared for individual workouts late last week and was working his way back to rejoining the lineup but broke his right thumb on Thursday while dunking.
The Atlanta, Ga., native is Carolina's leading scorer (19.8 ppg) and rebounder (9.4 rpg), a two-time National Player of the Week and three-time ACC Freshman of the Week.
The Tar Heels play at Duke on Saturday at 6:35 p.m.
Carolina (24-6, 12-5 ACC) clinched a double-bye in the ACC Tournament and will play in the quarterfinals in Charlotte on Thursday, March 12, at 9:30 p.m.
