March 25, 2026 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Dedicated to excellence on the court and in the classroom, North Carolina women's basketball landed four Tar Heels on the College Sports Communicators 2025-26 Academic All-District Team, with Elina Aarnisalo, Lanie Grant, Nyla Harris, and Ciera Toomey recognized. Harris was also named a finalist for the CSC Academic All-America team, to be announced in April.
Aarnisalo is in her first season with Carolina, majoring in exercise and sport science. The sophomore from Helsinki, Finland, is averaging 10.4 points per game as well as 2.8 assists. Aarnisalo scored a career-high 22 points in Carolina's victory over Duke and is the only Tar Heel to post three 20-point performances this season.
Shining in her sophomore season on the court, Grant is working towards a degree in pre-media & journalism, with a focus on advertising & public relations. Posting an average of 11.1 points per game, Grant has lit it up from beyond the arc with a total of 71 triples at a clip of 42.8%. In the ACC Tournament Quarterfinal, Grant posted a career-high 21 points while knocking down four triples.
Harris, an All-ACC First Team star, is majoring in communication studies and is set to graduate from Carolina this spring. Averaging a team-high 11.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, Harris asserted herself as one of the best in the paint in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Shooting an efficient 58.2% from the floor, Harris also boasts six double-doubles this season, including one in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament against Western Illinois.
Starting in all 35 games for the Tar Heels this season, Toomey is also majoring in exercise science. The redshirt-sophomore is averaging a career-best 8.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Shooting an efficient 54.7% from the floor this season, Toomey has scored in double-figures in 15 games this season. At Georgia Tech, Toomey grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, the most by a Tar Heel in a game this season.
The Tar Heels return to action on Friday, facing No. 1-seeded UConn in the Sweet 16 in Fort Worth. Tip between Carolina and the Huskies is slated for 5 p.m. ET on ESPN.
