Gymnastics Downed By Wolfpack

RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 12 University of North Carolina gymnastics dropped Sunday's meet against no. 22 NC State, 197.125-196.525, in Reynolds Coliseum.Â

The team recorded their best scores of the night on bars and vault with a 49.200 on each. The Tar Heels' score on bars is their highest of the season on the event.Â

Despite the team loss, Carolina had three event winners (vault – JoJo Valahovic, bars – Gwen Fink, beam – Sydney Seabrooks). Most notably, Fink recorded a career-high 9.950 on bars. The senior's performance moved her into third all-time on bars in program history.Â

All-Around
Both Fink and Seabrooks competed in the all-around for Carolina. The pair were the only gymnasts across both teams to compete in the event. Seabrooks became the event winner after posting a 39.525 with Fink in second recording a 39.200. Seabrook's all-around score marks a career-high for the freshman and team-high this season.
Rotation One – Bars (49.200)
Neve King and Seabrooks got UNC off to a strong start in the first rotation recording a 9.825 and 9.875 respectively. Fink highlighted the event with a huge 9.950. The senior's score is a career-high, team-high for the season, and moves her into third in the record book for all-time scores on bars. Fink's performance also led to an event win. Â
Rotation Two – Vault (49.200)
On vault, Kaya Forbes and Valahovic led the way for the Tar Heels. Forbes notched a 9.875. Valahovic was the event winner with a 9.925 marking her third meet this season with a 9.900 or higher on vault.
Rotation Three – Floor (49.175)
Freshman Hannah Aoki got the Tar Heels started with a 9.850 on floor in the lead off position. Jessica Naranjo later recorded a huge 9.900 on the event for the first time this season. In typical fashion, Seabrooks recorded her third 9.950 on floor this season as the anchor in the Tar Heels lineup.
Rotation Four – Beam (48.950)
On the final rotation of the night, Seabrooks led the way with a 9.875 on the event. The freshman tied for first across both teams on the event.
