LAST TIME OUT
➤ Last year's game against VCU ended 9-4 with the freshman Walker McDuffie picking up his second career win, throwing a strong 3.1 with seven strikeouts and no runs allowed.
➤ The pitching staff as a whole racked up 14 strikeouts and left 11 Rams on base.
➤ The highlight for the offense was a three-run homer from Hunter Stokely who was on his way to winning ACC POTW honors.
➤ It was a 13-4 win against the Aggies in 2025 that saw Carolina hit three home runs.
➤ The story of the night was Perry Hargett, who made his collegiate debut and produced three hits, four RBIs, and two runs punctuated by an eighth inning three-run blast to left.
➤ It was also a big day at the plate for Gallaher, who went 3-4 with a homer, two RBIs, two runs, and a walk.
CAROLINA CLASH
➤ The Tar Heels took part in their annual home-neutral-home series with East Carolina on the weekend with the teams splitting the spoils as the games ended in a rare win-loss-tie.
➤ It was the first tie for UNC since April 17, 2005 when a 10th inning game against Miami was called early due to a set curfew. Before that, the most recent draw was back in 1989.
➤ The weekend started strong for Carolina with a 10-0 eighth inning run rule in the Jungle in Greenville.
➤ Everyone in the lineup recorded a hit and Cooper Nicholson especially was on top of his game, reaching safely in every plate appearance via a home run, a two-RBI double and two HBPs.
➤ But the real star was Jason DeCaro, who was sensational in enemy territory, tossing a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts while only allowing five hits and one walk. Only two ECU runners reached third.
➤ It was the team's first eight inning complete game since Kent Emmanuel against Miami on May 23, 2013.
➤ Saturday's game went ECU's way. Gavin Gallaher's three-run blast to tie it in the third was the highlight, but the Pirates got the runs down the stretch to take a 10-3 victory at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
NON-CON COMBAT
➤ The Heels have compiled a 107-35-1 (.752) record in games against non-ACC opponents under Forbes. Last season, they were 25-4 against out of conference foes. The 2024 team was 24-6.
➤ Since 2020, UNC has won (or split) 13 of its 14 three-game non-conference weekend series with a 33-7-1 mark in that span.
