Evans Named ACC Player Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced women's tennis weekly awards Tuesday afternoon. Tatum Evans from the University of North Carolina women's tennis program was tabbed Player of the Week.
The junior earned the conference nod after going 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles action at the ITA Indoor National Championship. Evans' play helped lead Carolina to a 2-1 record on the week featuring their fourth top-15 win of the season.
Evans is the third Tar Heel this season to earn ACC Player of the Week honors and marks the fourth-straight week Carolina has had an athlete win a conference weekly award.
The McLean, Va. native opened the week with a dominant win over Ariel Madatali from Illinois (6-3, 6-1). Evans went on to sweep all her opponents in straight sets including a ranked win over no. 52 Nao Nishino from Ohio State. The win over Nishino was the lone singles win for the Tar Heels against the Buckeyes.
In doubles action, Evans and her partner Anna Frey picked up two wins. The pair started the week with a quick 6-1 win over their opponents from Illinois. Most notably the duo clinched the doubles point for Carolina against no. 6 Oklahoma, 7-5. Their doubles wins helped lift UNC to wins over the Fighting Illini and Buckeyes.
