January 8, 2026 | Fencing
CHAPEL HILL, NC – A strong contingent of Tar Heel fencers will travel to the Midwest this week to compete at the 2026 USA Fencing Junior Olympics, set for Friday, Jan. 9 through Sunday, Jan. 12 in Kansas City, Mo.

Carolina enters the new year with momentum after a standout close to 2025 that featured multiple top 15 finishes on the international stage. Tar Heel fencers made their mark across a demanding global schedule at tournaments spanning from Spain to Thailand.
That success now carries into one of the most competitive domestic events of the season. The Junior Olympics annually draw the top junior and cadet fencers from across the country, and Carolina will look to build on last year's strong
showing in Charlotte where several Tar Heels finished inside the top 25 against deep and competitive fields.
The four-day event marks Carolina's first major national competition of the 2026 calendar year.
