CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After strong individual showings at the 2026 Junior Olympics, Carolina fencing hits the road this weekend for the Johns Hopkins Invitational in Baltimore on Jan. 18.

Fresh off a standout performance on the national stage, freshman Dagny Johnson returns from the Junior Olympics victorious after claiming silver in Junior Women's Saber, a run that took down several higher-ranked opponents before finishing 15-12 in the title match. Her individual success highlights a Tar Heel squad that's gaining momentum as the heart of the season approaches.

The women's epee squad also made noise in Kansas City, with strong results across the board and notable contributions from Mia Smotritsky, Kaitlyn Zanga and Elizabeth Zigalo. Those efforts helped to close out Junior Olympics on a high note and create momentum for the upcoming JHU Invitational.
