Wake Forest Head Coach Steve Forbes
On Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar's duo…
"They've got a really, really good team. I think they've got one of the best four-five combinations in the country in Wilson and Veesaar. I think they only missed one shot between them — like two shots between them the whole night. I think they had nine offensive rebounds. Really good players."
On what went through his head during the last four possessions…
"The crowd — we kind of did a good job of keeping the crowd out of it. I think this is the loudest building in the ACC. I think we did a really nice job of keeping the crowd out of it til that point, to their credit. And I thought we just got a little sped up doing it."
On Carolina's scorers tonight…
"I thought Young and Powell were big in the game. I mean they were six-for-eight, five-for-seven from three. I thought they made some big shots. I mean, and Veesaar made a couple there too. I was like: 'Come on man, really?'"
UNC Head Coach Hubert Davis
On Jaydon Young stepping up when his number was called…
"When, not if, when your number is called — your job and responsibility is to be able to step up. And his number was called the most, and he stepped up."
On sustaining leads and team maturity..
"This is going to be our growth for us as a team: It's not getting to that level, but it's staying at that level."
On the Smith Center and what 500 wins really means
"It's more than just wins, and it's about the relationships, the experiences that all of us as former players have had here that bind us to this place, to this university and to the Smith Center."
On leadership and Seth Trimble's impact…
"He's our leader of the team. The way that he prepares and practices and leads this team is why we're 14-2."
Caleb Wilson
On the different rotations…
"It's good to see my guys get opportunities to score and get shots up and affect the game. I feel that it's important that we have a deep roster… We are always trying to figure it out and as a team, all we have to do is try to be consistent."
On Jaydon Young's performance…
"He can shoot it. Playing against the scout team he's always going to make shots and really push us. It's nothing new. It's nothing that I didn't expect."
On his efficient first half performance…
"I was just aggressive. I got to do it myself so I just wanted to do it myself."
On what the team learned after the loss to SMU…
"To make people miss. That was the biggest focus. We just had to make people miss shots. Tonight, they hit tough shots and teams are going to hit tough shots when they play us. That's all I can say."
Jarin Stevenson
On the team's switches…
"Yeah, definitely. Four switches. We got to talk. I feel like, talk louder. Talk more. Yeah, just communicate."
On the team's turnovers…
"We got to work on that. Just being strong with the ball. I had some turnovers myself, just not being strong with the wall, seeing the defense, reading the defense, and you just gotta be stronger with the ball when it gets tight."
On coming off the bench vs. starting…
"Coming off the bench, you get to see a little bit, and then you get to go out there and make adjustments. So, yeah, it's a little different, different role, but I just embrace it and just do the best I can."
Seth Trimble
On Jaydon Young's Performance…
"I mean, Jay Young was incredible. He stepped up when his name was called. He's been persevering all year, maybe not playing games, playing four minutes some games, but he knew that his opportunity was going to come. And, I mean, that was this right here was a product of the work that he's put in. He stepped up huge, and he made it happen."
On being a part of the 500th win…
"It's incredible. It's a blessing. And we're super, super thankful, grateful just to be a part of this history. There's many greats that came before us, many great coaches, many great accolades that these players and coaches have brought and just for us to be an extension of that means, it means a lot."
On Losing the Lead During the End of The Game…
"I take accountability for that. I played a terrible game. I think if I play what I call a normal game, an average game, for me, we win more comfortably. I think a couple other guys step up. We win more comfortably. It's just we just didn't play our best tonight."
Jaydon Young
On Playing a Role in the 500th Win…
"It feels great for sure but I feel like basketball is basketball. Got my rhythm, kind of all went away for a second, but just running out of the tunnel and then running back in at the end of the game, just knowing that everybody in the gym has 110% minutes."
On Leading the Way While Other Guards Struggle…
"Just help my brothers out, when they're not making shots, somebody has to and if I'm not making shots I'm pretty sure they would do the same for me. So we got each other's back."
On His Earliest Memory In The Dean Dome…
"Earliest memory coming here, came to Late Night with Roy probably like third grade. My dad brought me here but he made me sit up top and watching I said I was going to be a part of that one day. He said next time we come, It'll be because they're recruiting not because we're sitting all the way up top.
Henri Veesaar
On the bench's contribution…
"Obviously, Jaydon has been doing a great job in practice all year long. He's been on a scout team and doing an incredible job there. With the games lately, he's been doing a great job showing his defensive potential. He's made us a winning impact. His aggressiveness and defense, pick and rolls and being able to knock down the three. That's so valuable for everybody."
On Caleb Wilson's droughts in the second half…
"At the start of a game, teams are feeling it out and then he is taking advantage of them not doubling him or being able to do a quick move… They're being really physical with him, kind of fouling, and then we have to inbound it again. The main thing is that teams are focusing on him and that when he is on the court he might not take the shots because he has a gravity for defenders pulling in."
On 500 wins in the Smith Center…
"500 wins is crazy. I've only been here for half a season and seeing the way the fans care about everything and here every night, bumping us up and giving us energy. It's just a special place to be."
