Diamond Heels To Play Fall Scrimmage Against NC State At The DBAP
September 17, 2025 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina baseball has scheduled a fall exhibition with cross-Triangle rivals NC State on Oct. 16 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. First pitch for the contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and tickets will be sold at DurhamBulls.com for $15.
This will be the first time Tar Heels take on the Wolfpack in such a scrimmage in Durham. It will also be the final event on the fall schedule for head coach Scott Forbes' team, which sees the contest as a chance to showcase its offseason progress.
"We are really excited about the opportunity to play a great game in Durham and showcase how our players and program are working to get better every day," Forbes said. "We thank the Bulls for the use of their park – Carolina has made a lot of great memories there and we look forward to making more. We hope our fans come out and get loud for some Fall baseball"
The scrimmage will mark the Diamond Heels' first game back in the DBAP since claiming the 2025 ACC tournament title back in May. That day saw UNC run away with a 14-4 win over Clemson in the championship game.
Ryan Lynch got the start in that contest as Gavin Gallaher drove in the first run with a double. That dynamic duo will feature in the exhibition, alongside the Tar Heels' 20 other returners and 16 newcomers.
The Tar Heels and the Wolfpack together own one of the most storied rivalries in college baseball. A total of 317 official games have been played all-time, with Carolina leading the series 172-143-1. In neutral site games, UNC holds a 15-12 advantage.
The two squads also squared off in one of the most memorable games in the history of Durham Bulls Athletic Park on May 26, 2013, a six-hour 18-inning affair attended by 11,392 fans, then the largest crowd to watch a college baseball game in the state of North Carolina.
The Diamond Heels will host a number of other fall events at Boshamer Stadium leading up to the scrimmage with NC State. Their first exhibition will be against Walters State on Oct. 3 before the intra-squad Fall World Series begins on Oct. 7. Admission for all four of these contests will be free.
