Heels Hold First Scrimmage Of The Spring

Chapel Hill, NC--Â The North Carolina Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the Spring on a raw, cold Wednesday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. There were a total of nine base hits in the six 1/2 inning scrimmage.
Offensive Highlights:Â Only two batters had multiple base hits. Tyler Howe and Perry Hargett both went 2-3 with one RBI. Howe and Hargett also had the only two extra base hits as Howe had a triple and Hargett doubled. Jake Schaffner was 1-3 with two RBI.
Pitching Highlights:Â Eight players saw action on the mound: Cam Padgett, Kyle Percival, Jake Cackovic, Amos Rich, Riley Leatherman, Andrew Wallen, Justin Mabe and Tim Lawson. Padgett and Cackovic each tossed 2.0 scoreless innings. Amos Rich struck out three hitters in 2.0 innings while Wallen gave up no runs in 1.1 innings.
Defensive Highlight:Â Michael Maginnis made a fantastic diving, backhanded catch in left to rob a batter of an extra base hit.
The Tar Heels will hold their next scrimmage on Thursday.
